Fascist Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Continues Assault On Black History

On Wednesday, the Florida State Board of Education adopted a new curriculum for how Black history will be taught in public schools which is facing backlash for its blatant racism.

The new curriculum requires teachers to instruct their students that enslaved people “developed skills” that “could be applied for their personal benefit.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, another section of the new standards stated that in teaching about mob violence against Black residents instructors should note “acts of violence perpetrated against and by African Americans.”

The state’s largest teachers union, The Florida Education Association, called the new standards a "big step backward.” That’s an understatement.

While disgraceful, the actions by Florida Republicans are not surprising. Earlier this year the fascist Governor of Florida banned the teaching of AP African American Studies in the state.

DeSantis has tried and failed to jumpstart his Presidential campaign by waging a war on children, educators, and all of the state’s most marginalized groups. We must fight back against DeSantis’ fascist agenda in Florida.
